Cleaning & Care

It’s always more fun making the mess than cleaning it up...

So if you’ve been making muddy memories or just out exploring then this simple overview is for you.

Banner 3How to clean your raincoat

Try not to wash your raincoat too often as repeated washing (especially with certain detergents) can weaken your coats ability to repel water.

To clean the outside

  • Brush off any loose dirt
  • Wipe down with a damp towel or sponge
  • For stubborn stains or to clean seams & zippers
  • Dip a soft toothbrush in soapy water  (use a mild liquid detergent preferably non-toxic and biodegradable) and gently brush the required area
  • Wipe over with a clean damp towel or cloth to remove soapy residue

To clean or refresh whole coat

  • Brush off any loose dirt
  • Spot treat any marks on the cotton lining with a mild detergent.
  • Gentle machine wash on cool. Do not use heavy spin cycles.

To dry raincoat

Hang inside out and allow to dry naturally (do not place in the dryer or use artificial heat to dry as this will compromise your coats outer layer)

How to clean gumboots

To clean the outside

  • Hose down or wipe them over with a damp towel or sponge
  • Do not use solvents or detergents as these will deteriorate the rubber
  • For stubborn stains a soft toothbrush can also be used to remove marks

To clean the lining inside your boot

  • Give the inside a spray with laundry spray (Sard, Napisan or similar) or soak a cloth in warm soapy solution and rub inside of boot.
  • Dip a cloth in clean water and wipe inside of boot to rinse. Repeat to ensure cleaning products have been removed.

To dry gumboots

  • Hang upside down or pop over a pole to drain and dry (drying with a heater will cause the rubber to crack)

Important ongoing care

  • Regularly apply rubber conditioner to the outer (we like Wolly Gumboot Care)
  • Pushing boots off using the alternate foot will lead to splitting or cracking. Encourage children to take pull them off whilst sitting down.
  • Do not leave your rubber gumboots outside for a prolonged period of time

Remember to have fun because mess equals memories and that's what French Soda is made for.
